Don't know the answer to the first part, but about ps2's, and any other
machines w/o AFS login:

We keep a "master" machine around, which users have to log into to
change their passwds. The passwd command has been modified so that
if they know the old AFS pw, the UNIX and AFS pw's are changed, and
if they only know the old UNIX passwd (and the AFS one is different),
only the UNIX passwd is changed. The passwd file is updated on
overey other machine nightly, so users passwds work on every machine,
whether they are on AFS and have AFS login or not.

The master machine is an rt_aos4 system, which makes things easier,
the encrypted pws are not stuck away in /etc/security. Of course,
that wouldn't be too hard to deal with, and awk script or a C program
could easily merge the info.
