Several people posted comments about AFS over SLIP and slow lines and
requested a response from Transarc. When we are asked about the slowest
line over which AFS will run acceptably, we have recommended 56 KB. Yes,
there is a lot of interest in running AFS over slower lines. We have
always said that we thought it was technically feasible, but it would
require changing the timeouts and other parameters. It sounds like
some of you have discovered that.
Because of where we are in our product release cycle, we cannot spend
time investigating this at this moment. After we get AFS 3.1 out the
door (very soon now), Craig has offered to experiment with rx. If any
of you have changes you want to suggest, you can send them to me and
I will collect them. If we get something that works reasonably well,
we will make it available as an "experimental release".
