Hi Matt,

I have taken the liberty to ask someone else to test Netscape messenger
for us, namely my wife Julie.
She also works at MIT and uses a Mac. She has done some testing on my
request and here are some things she found,
I think this will be usefull for us.

Regards,

Here are some notes from my netscape messenger, on the transfer of my
folders. FYI, I am using a 400MHz blue G3 with 128MB memory, 4MB cache
and 1MB
backside cache. This machine is running MAC OS9 and I am using Netscape
Communicator 4.72.

Using the directions on the project home page | NS Configuration, I
configured my netscape messenger after backing up my machine. It went
smoothly, except
that I should note that on the Mac, the preferences are organized a
little differently (See screenshot, attached.) than in the
instructions. A significant difference is that
the Mail & Newsgroups main page does not have the selection, "Use
Netscape Messenger from MAPI-based applications".

Also, I do NOT like the fact that Netscape messenger can not query MIT
database of users. I use this feature frequently through Eudora, and it
would be a reason
for me not to switch to Netscape Messenger.

Using the directions on the project home page | Eudora Migration, I used
the email import utility to import my mailboxes from Eudora. Note that
there was no
import option in the file menu; rather, it was in tools | netscape
import under the communicator menu. Following the cues to select the
directory where my current
eudora mail folders exist was simple enough. In a few minutes, all of
my mailboxes (I have 21, including the in and out boxes, plus 5
subfolders in two of those
folders, for a total of 11.8MB). It then prompted me to locate my
address book, and proceeded to transfer that in its entirety.

Let me know if you need me to test anything else.

Julie
