Project Name:    SecureLAN demise
Project Leader:  Peter Kelley
Report Date:     02/12/02
URL:             http://windsurf.mit.edu/projects/securelan

Accomplishments this Period:

  * began testing the cutover to MITnet email for the PPL platform
  * installed the 4 network-based printers for PPL
  * met with SSIT management to help plan Record Retention project

Goals for the Coming Period:

  * complete PPL email reconfiguration
  * SSIT - Client signoff on oldMITSIS de-commissioning (carry-over)
  * SSIT - complete shutdown of old MITSIS and DEVSIS (carry-over)

Issues:

  - SSIT will be visiting the record retention issue with respect to the
    de-commissioning of the old VAX equipment. The intent of this effort
    is not to define a Record Retention policy; it is to determine whether
    there are any architectural dependencies on the old hardware.

  - The re-configuration of email on PPL will take a little more effort than
    originally anticipated. The vendor (Process Software for PMDF product)
    no longer has staff that can troubleshoot nor configure our old revision
    of the PMDF product. Process Software would like us to upgrade to a more
    recent revision which may cause additional effort on other related
    products (e.g. Multinet). Our effort here is to avoid the client
    having to re-configure email addressing embedded in scripts.
