Report Date: April 11, 2001
Project URL: http://web.mit.edu/is/delivery/search
Accomplishments during last period:
-----------------------------------------------
After conferring with stakeholders and users, implemented search choices
from various searchable entities via the MIT home page:
1) MIT web quick search (IS-supported index of world-readable MIT webpages)
2) MIT with Google (google.com's index of world-readable MIT
webpages)
3) People directory (MIT online directory)
4) MIT web & newspapers (uses 1) above)
5) News Office & Tech Talk (uses 1) above)
6) Student news (The Tech) (uses 1) above)
7) Offices and programs (directory) (uses 1) above)
8) Events Calendar (uses events.mit.edu)
9) Course/subject listings & schedule (uses student.mit.edu)
The response has been very positive.
Goals for next period:
-----------------------------
Develop a system to would allow WCS to assign "priority" status to certain
queries. The desired behavior is that when a user enters a query such as
"financial aid," if there is an official office or program containing that
string, the results will be displayed such that they are distinguishable
from the usual query results.
