Here's a count of the letters in a 13M chunk of Gutenberg texts.
However, you'd be well-advised to count a chunk of text that you
think resembles the plaintext you're looking for.  The first
column is raw count, the second is proportion, the third is the
ASCII value.  If spaces are included, expect them to be about
18-20%, and adjust the letters downward accordingly.
