I'm finishing a web archive of the cypherpunks mailing list (again;
this time it's on a mirrored disk which is frequently backed up, on
a machine I control fully...)
The url is http://cypherpunks.venona.com/
As before, I'll sell a cd-rom of the archives (mbox spool and html)
for USD 100, or 10 grams of e-gold.
I'm still finishing the persistent HTML archive suitable for linking.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to the format of the URLs? I'm
thinking:
http://cypherpunks.venona.com/date/YY/MM/SEQUENCENUM.html
for monthly indexes by date and thread (sequence numbers will not
change once assigned, so linking should be safe)
and possibly
http://cypherpunks.venona.com/archive/MESSAGEID
to allow reference to a specific message ID.
I'm using mhonarc and hacking the configuration; raw mhonarc output
is at http://cypherpunks.venona.com/archive/ presently, for testing.
The real thing should be up this week.
I'll add a full-text search function once the basic messages are up.
Additionally, as I have time, I'm planning to put together small
collections of messages throughout the years dealing with
specific topics; sort of like retroactive moderation. If you want
to see the major points discussed on the cypherpunks mailing list
w.r.t. electronic cash, there will be an easy way to do so, etc.
One thing I *won't* be doing is providing a convenient way to download
the entire archive in large files; this is just too resource intensive.
If you want to download 600mb of archives, either buy a cd or
email me personally.
