Users of e-mail and network information services have got their own journal
in Finland. First issue of 'InfoLinja' was published in October 1993 and
second in the beginning of January. Naturally information is distributed via
e-mail, too. Distribution of both tabloid format issues has been some 10.000
copies.

"The feedback has been very positive: there certainly is a need for this
kind of new paper", editor and publisher Jarmo Lahti says. "Subscribers of
InfoLinja will receive also newsletters named 'InfoKirje' to their mailboxes
either in Internet or in X.400 between issues on paper", he continues.

"The emphasis between conventional paper and electronic media will change
according to the market situation. I believe that electronic distribution
will get more and more important in relative short time. The paper is very
important way to market the electronic choice, too", Jarmo Lahti says.

In Finland there are over 100.000 registered e-mail users in the X.500
directory of Telecom Finland. The number of Internet users is not known;
there are some 300 Internet domains in the country.

"The marketing of InfoLinja and InfoKirje has just been started. I am happy
with much lesser subscribers than those maybe over 200.000 Finnish users of
Internet and/or X.400 mail."

"Creative use of e-mail and network information services techniques offer new
creative ways for advertizing, too. And even without no need to violate
"netiquette" and giving better service as well for subscribers as for
advertisers. And these new service possibilities can be started and offered
without heavy investments", Jarmo Lahti says.
