I've been following the concerns about advertising, but I still haven't
learned anything about how ATTRACTIVE the Internet is to advertisers. Most
magazines, broadcasters, and mailing list compilers make a considerable
effort to determine the demographics of their audience (how many are
there, where do they live, what are their jobs, incomes etc.) and that
information is very important in deciding what venues to advertise in.
Outside of Brian Reid's monthly analysis of Usenet readership and some
guesses as to the number of people who have some kind of Internet
commection, I haven't seen any data as to who is on the net. If anybody
has any sources they can point me to I'd love to hear about them -- and if
not, perhaps those of us interested in commercialization ought to think
about how to get that data.
