 (1) The path from you to SUN.COM is not necessarily the path from
     SUN.COM to you, but it _may_ be immaterial in this case.

I understand the theoretical possabilities, but the practical considerations
are that I'm 99% sure that this was the path at the time at a macroscopic
level:  BARRNET->NSFNet->PSINet, subnet paths are non-deterministic.

 (2) Are SUN "pioneering" this misuse of the network or have they
     picked it up from somebody else?

In the press conversations other things were hinted at that SUN was
doing also (additional pioneering)...
