We run a few lists from a listserv, so I asked my 'guru'. Here is what he
says.... a digest is just a compilation of the day's (week's, month's,
whatever) messages. It has a table of contents at the top and all the
messages are below.
If you are using current listserv software, this can be set on a
per-subscriber basis, i.e. some people like to get it 'live' others like to
get it in a batch/digest. You can even set this yourself, so that you can
turn it into batches/digests for a while and then go back to 'live'.
The problem alluded to in the other messages come when the mailing list is
not using this sort of host software. I don't know if com-priv is run from
listserv software, but if not then perhaps the cost would be in adapting
the current software or moving to a new platform.
Others more expert than I can probably add in the details.
