I have asked a friend who is a patent attorney and used to be a patent
examiner at the Patent Office to obtain the patent and render an
opinion. He's developed an interest in the topic since I got him
hooked on Mosaic.
Pending his response, I would note that multimedia is not exactly a
small matter to GE. Our NBC unit has been broadcasting combined video,
audio (stereo even), and text (subtitles for the hearing impaired) for
awhile now. I suspect they began before this patent's application was
filed ...
