Ah, that bittersweet advertising topic...
IMHO, this *is* a relevant offer to place in front of the com-priv list.
We're all here because of our common interest in (whether for or against)
commercialization of the Internet. Both the aforementioned publications deal
with the many different forms of this issue. And, hey, I know a number of
people, including myself, who are delighted with free trial subscriptions to
publications that cover topics of interest.
On the other hand, I find the style of the IBJ message leaves something to be
desired. I think Strangelove publications should hire a new marketing manager
(or copywriter, whichever the case may be). I find the wording of the
announcement tacky and the impersonal nature of the posting doesn't fit the
culture here.
Any marketing person worth their salt knows that blatantly blowing your own
horn in promotional material only alienates the potential customer. There are
ways to talk about a company's success without sounding offensive. Better
yet, stick to benefits... that's what customers care about... and that's why
they buy products.
Sorry for the rambling.
Nevertheless, I enjoy seeing good, healthy competition.
