MIT's fee to NEARnet is considerably less, around $45,000 per year.  
This is NEARnet's standard fee for its 10MB/sec Ethernet over microwave 
service.

At MIT there are several fee plans.  The one Miles is actually referring 
to costs $25.00 per month.

The correct number here for this very incomplete analysis is $24.17.

Real experience shows that the cost of supporting individual users at 
geographically dispersed locations is significantly greater (at least an 
order of magnitude) on a per user basis than supporting the same number 
of users at one location.

The last time I checked I paid the students who support the MIT network.

Because of the different fee plans available, the actual income is less 
than half this amount.
