Jack - Don't you regard X Windows, NFS, and Z39.50 as new applications? I
sure do! And how about X.400(92) and X.500 - they sure (will) allow users
to do things they've never been able to do before. As we continue to widen
the constituency of the NREN to larger and larger audiences, farther and
farther removed from the computer and communication 'droids like you and me
I suspect we'll be soon inundated with ideas for services we in our own
little techy parochial ways never thought of. Then our only part will be the
SMOP to realize them, right? Cheers, -s
