On Wednesday May 20, 1992 at 7.30 pm - 9.30 pm in Room 34 at the Washington
DC Convention Center there will be a informal discussion based on the ideas
below. To attend this Birds-of-a-Feather (BOF), you do NOT have to be
registered at Interop. This ia an open meeting.
During 1992 many trials, testbeds and some production networks (LANs,MANS
and WANS)in the range 155-2,044Mbps are being conceived, planned or
implemented by many different organizations. Examples include The NSF
Supercomputing Centers, the CNRI Gigabit Testbeds, IEC and RBOC trials,
HPCC Initiatives (e.g. DOE's ESNET). All involved are wrestling wih
standards complexities (SONET, ATM, HIPPI, Fiber Channel, etc....),
experimenting with interfaces and topologies, imagining or proposing
applications, mindful of future costs and tariff issues.
Come ready to participate in , discuss, or oppose the formation of an
industry/user-oriented Interest Group or Forum.
Some goals of this Forum might be:- to share experience and technical
information; to foster implementation agreements; to exchange information,
over the years, that helps with the cost effective commercialization of
interoperable products; to foster the introduction of fabrics and services
in the 155-2,044Mbps ranges; etc....
