Cost? At the PSI end, you're already using cisco boxes. There are
free tcp/ip implementations for the PC. What cost? Or do you mean
development cost?
A benefit to tcp/ip is that it is a well-known, time-tested protocol
for multiplexing connections. Will PSILink (did I get the StuDLyCaPs
right? :-) let me read/write mail and/or news while ftp'ing a file? I
bet clients will be asking for this before long. I'm sure you can
design such a thing into your protocol, but why bother? tcp/ip with
header compression comes very close to 100% utilization of a
low-bandwidth line.
