That is still the case. All the .su-domain Internet mail traffic is
going via the EUnet backbone in Finland. The traffic level is quite
high and there is great demand for a leased line - however even at 64k
I wonder how much else than E-mail traffic could the connection actually
manage..
There has been some work done to get an leased line to replace the
current modem link but it seems to be much harder to get an leased
line than one could expect.
FUNET (Finnish University and Research Network) has purchased 64k
link between Helsinki and Tallinn, Estonia and their network should
be connected to the Internet quite soon. NORDUnet is also working
on the matter and if funds/sponsors are found all the Baltics countries
could get connected.
