To whomever asked about a live internet node in Moscow - the only thing
unfortunate about my system is that unless some one signs his com-priv
message I can't see who it is from.

To the best of my knowledge there is no live internet node there. I am
going to spend 11 days in Moscow early in april. During this time I
intend to do a survey of the networking situation in moscow. I will be
staying with a Russian physicist who even now is setting up a schedule and
interviews with the people running networks and people who are planning
 new networks.

I intend to come back with all the information I possible can about the
network scene, because I think it is high time that Moscow goes live on
the internet and as a Russian historian turned networker if I could help
in getting this to happen, I'd be delighted.

I would very much appreciate by private email suggestions about people to
visit and the questions that *YOU* would ask were YOU going.

Oh yeah.....funny thing the power of the network - the reason I am going?
Lasxt November 30th someone forwarded to me a call for papers for an East
West Conf on Emerging Computer Technologies in Education sponsored by
ICSTI in Moscow. I had just completed some private writing on NREN.
Shared an outline and frankly much to my surprise was invited to be a
speaker at the international congress on NREN (ie I am speaking on NREN).
So I ahve my first passport in 22 years and am looking forward to april
2nd departure. I know a lot of folk here can help ensure a meaningful trip.

Feels GREAT by the way to be a private citizen again! I am also moving
ahead on plans for a newsletter and will post more to the list on these
and other plans during the week end.

By the way, watch Communications Daily, if what I have heard is correct
what they will soon publish is likely to produce some *MAJOR* shockwaves
 re NREN.
