The current issue of CommunicationsWeek (Feb 18, '90) has an
article on page 10 titled "MCI Switch Upgrade Under Way" by
Terry Sweeney.
In the second sentence of the article it is mentioned that new switches
from DSC Communications and NTI are being installed and will let MCI offer
frame-relay and SMDS services "and provide new T1 and DS-3 services more
easily."
This is the first I've heard of an INTERLATA carrier ponying up to offer
SMDS service capability. So far all the SMDS I've read about (which is not
all that great I'll admit!) have been restricted to INTRALATA RBOC's. With
this MCI upgrade, INTERLATA SMDS will now be possible.
