Uh .... folks, I am really curious.
Can anyone help me make sense of the following?
A major trade pub called me today and said that it was a bit startled by
whatever could have been the rationale for NSF's award of the vBNS to MCI
since MCI had no ATM offerings out as of yet.
While from other quarters I hear that Cong. Synar's folk are making the lives
of some of the people at ESnet *miserable* because they had the temerity to
award Sprint (which I hear spoken of as the LEADER in ATM networking) a
contract for the second time for the ESnet backbone.
Gee, when Mike Nelson wrote the HPCC act for Mr. Gore I thought an
advertised purpose was that it would be used to spur technology innovation by
technology leaders. Looks like once again Federal dollars are being used
instead to spur technology catch up rather than technology innovation.
I mean would someone tell me whether the claim that CoREN asked MCI to quote a
price and a delivery date for a t-3 ATM network and MCI told coren...."we
can't do that." -- is accurate??
