Hi! Now that the term has started, we need help not just in answering
questions, but also in keeping the queue down to a reasonable size and
in making it easier for the people doing queue management.
- If you have completely answered someone's question, and you have no
reason to think the person cannot successfully receive mail (i.e., the
person has a pobox or other address and isn't asking about how to read
mail or other things that lead you to believe he doesn't know how to
read mail), please mail the answer and done the question. It isn't
necessary to put every question into the pickup queue waiting for the
user to done it. For example, if someone says something like "I forgot
how to start ez, can you please remind me?" and then logs out, we can
just mail him the answer and done the question.
- When you forward a question, please update the one-line description.
If you're leaving it pending, the description should indicate what the
question is about. If you're forwarding it to pickup, the description
should also give some indication of what we're waiting for and when
mail was sent (if appropriate). For example, "logout errors. more than
1 machine? m/s 9/11" and "trying to send mail to
pine.cs1.sps.mot.com--waiting for done" are good descriptions -- you
can instantly get an idea as to what the question is about, and why
it's in the pickup queue.
- If you notice a lot of similar questions, particularly if them seem
course-related, please let me know. (If it's course-related, I'll work
with the faculty liaisons on getting the course to provide information
to the students. If it's not course related, we can put in a stock
answer.)
Thanks! If you have any questions or comments, or any suggestions for
other things that would make your olc-life easier, please let me know!
