Hi y'all (yis, I's frum Kentucky)
I've thrown together a program that I hope will help the "white-board"
situation in the consulting office as well as help keep informations
about servers more available.
The program is called (guess) servstat and it's in
/afs/athena.mit.edu/user/w/web/vaxbin
(there's no rtbin version yet... I'll compile it when I get to an rt)
It's just in beta testing right now.. I've never had to deal with
file locks before, so I don't guarantee anything. There will be
instructions on how it works later tonight and you can see those by
doing "cstock servstat" from my vaxbin directory as well.
But briefly, here's the format:
servstat by itself will give you a list of what people have reported as down.
servstat hostname (without the .mit.edu) will give you the log of the
host telling when it's been up and down and all of that.
servstat -add will allow you to add another host name to the list. (I
haven't gone through and typed all the hosts in... actually
there are only maybe 10 in the list right now, so feel free to
add hosts when you get a host not found error.
It will prompt you for the host name... servstat -add hostname
doesn't work (because I just thought of it this second).
servstat -up hostname will allow you to report that a server has come
up, and it allows a 60 character comment (hit enter if you don't have
anything to say)
servstat -down hostname reports that a host has gone down, and it also
allows a 60 character comment.
all hostnames do NOT have the .mit.edu extention. And you may type in
any front portion of command options (like servstat -d hostname)
If get have troubles with it, please let me know (web@athena)
Thanks.
