Hi,
Someone sent me email from another computer with the normal unix
mail program. In it, they included email (complete with headers). It was
sent to me at an account where my .forward file leaves one copy there and
sends another copy to athena. The copy left at the other computer had the
whole letter as one piece of email. The copy sent to athena was split up
at every included header into multiple separate pieces of email, each with
the header as it was included in the body of the email, and with no
additional header lines saying it was received by athena, by po7, etc.
I have a sample file below that demonstrates the problem. The
headers are essentially those that were generated by the unix mail program
in what my friend sent me, but I've changed the names and subjects. I sent
it from various accounts of mine to other accounts, and consistently, no
matter where I send it from and no matter whether I send it directly to
athena or it gets forwarded to athena, it always arrives at my other accounts
in one piece (but with the initial "From" line in each included header changed
by having a ">" prepended to it), but is split into multiple letters with
misleading headers when received on athena.
Because sending this bug report with the file unaltered would
actually cause the problem to occur (that is, this bug report would appear
as four separate pieces of email, the first with the correct header, and
the rest apparently to and from fictional addresses with no trace of where
it all really came from), I've added an asterisk to the start of
every line. There are no other asterisks in the file, so clip out the file
and globally change asterisks to null strings. Then mail it from anywhere
to athena. When I mail this one letter on athena using MH and the
MH header
