System name: hodge
Type and version: KN01 7.3P (2 update(s) to same version)
Display type: PMAX-MFB
What were you trying to do?
rlogin to PODGE.MIT.EDU
What's wrong:
PODGE is running 7.4, and appears to have a bug. Instead of
displaying the message:
zwgc: Unable to open X display -- disabling X driver.
zwgc: To receive Zephyrgrams, (type `/usr/athena/bin/zwgc -ttymode').
it runs a zwgc with a DISPLAY :0.0
This causes zephyrs to pop up on the idle login screen, which shouldn't
be happening. This *DOES NOT* occur on 7.3 machines. This bug is
reproducable.
What should have happened:
It should have displayed the warning message and not run a zwgc.
(CERTAINLY not on :0.0)
Please describe any relevant documentation references:
--[9434]--
This occurred because someone started inetd by hand on podge with the
DISPLAY environment variable set, and your rlogin process therefore
inherited the variable setting.
People who find it necessary to kill and restart inetd on workstations
should be careful when doing so of the entironment they propagate to
inetd when they restart it.
I have killed and restarted inetd on podge without DISPLAY set.
