Howdy. Y'all may have seen this recently, but here is a detailed
synopsis of what goes wrong, when, and how.
When a user WITH AN 8-CHARACTER USERNAME attempts to use rlogin to connect
to a DECstation, regardless of the release (tried on 7.3 and 7.4), the
user's entry into the password file is corrupted. Specifically, the word
"nope" is appended to the end of their username, for example:
macoileynope:lWb//kQI..lQU:3611:101:Mark A Coiley,(kms),DEC/Hudson,5085685686,5084855250:/mit/macoiley:/bin/csh
This bug can be reproduced by using rlogin.ucb to remotely log in to ANY
DECstation, using an 8-character username.
Hopefully, this can be hacked to work in 7.4?
