I previously had a letter #4 in my "drafts" directory. Using xmh, I opened that file (with the "use as composition" option) to write the remainder of the eletter. I have been writing it for the last couple of hours. When I thought I was
finished, I clicked on the "save" button. When this happens, the save button becomes gray (no longer an option). Then I noticed that the email address was wrong, so I add a neccessary suffix to it. I noticed at this point that when I typed, the "save"
button did not become available again.
Out of interest, I tried modifying a bit of text, but the save button did not come back. So, after correcting what I'd modified, I just pressed the send button
to send my letter. When I did that, the send button ceased to be an option, but the save button came back as an option! (when either is selected, all other options return, even if no text modification has been made).
Then I saved the text again, and closed the window.
The letter that was sent was not the version that I had been working on, but the old version that I had started with originally, some 2 hours ago.
That got returned as misaddressed mail, and the copy in my "drafts" directory was also the old version. Thus I am left without any record of my work.
I have not tried to repeat this effect; I'm still in shock..
