The problem you described, writing out a file in emacs on an RS/6000 and
then not seeing it on another machine has been described before, except
that the file is under NFS. Could there be something wierd with emacs on
the RS/6000 that causes this problem? Maybe it tickles a bug in buffer
cache management on the machine so eventhough emacs thinks it closed the
file and flushed it, the operating system is playing some games.
