Attach failures are occurring in 6.0c workstations in "user land" due
to a trashed attachtab. The immediate cause of the problem appears to be
one or both of the following.

      a) In a .login:

              attach a &
              attach b &
              attach c &

      b) In a .logout:

              detach a & etc. etc.

Here in E40, I was able to trash my attachtab more reliably with detach, but
in one of the cases reported from the field, the problem most likely occurred
on login. In other cases, the problem was not noticed until someone tried
to login and got the 'unable to attach home directory' message.
