Your information concerning the School of Humanities and Social Science and
the Department of Humanities on Xinfo: Campus Info Program is incorrect and
out-of-date, in part. I was instructed that I had to give you the corrections
through E-mail, so I will attempt to do so. Please call me at 3-4443 if you ha
ve any questions. One accessses this info under Help, then Help on MIT, then
Campus Map. Under the heading "Departments", the Schools of the Institute are
listed. Under SHSS, there are 6 departments listed. In fact, only 4 of those
are departments: Economics, Humanities, Linguistics & Philosophy, and
Political Science. The other two (Anthropology & Archaeology and History)
should be eliminated from this list of departments. They are components
of the Department of Humanities.
Then, under the Department of Humanities, you should first list the HASS
(Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences) Office. (There is no actual
headquarters office for the Dept. of Humanities, but the HASS Office is
the closest thing there is.) The location and phone number (14N-408,
3-4441) are correct. The Coordinator is Bette Davis, not Ruth Spear.
This should be followed by a list of the 8 sections and programs which
comprise the Department of Humanities, with location and phone number for
each. (As it is now, you have Foreign Languages and Literatures, which
is one of the 8, and the Writing Center, which should not be included.)
The following is the list of sections and programs in Humanities:
Anthropology & Archaeology, 20B-131, 3-3065
Foreign Languages & Literatures, 14N-305, 3-4771
History, E51-210, 3-4965
Literature, 14N-409, 3-3581
Music & Theater Arts, 14N-207, 3-3210
Science, Technology, and Society, E51-110, 3-3452
Writing, 14E-303, 3-7894
Women's Studies, 14E-316. 3-8844

I don't know how you obtained the information that is in the system now,
but I would appreciate your making the above corrections as soon as possi-
ble. I am the Coordinator of the HASS Office, Bette Davis.
