Dear Bugs,
Here is a conversation with olc that should be self-explanatory. I'd
appreciate you looking into this issue.
Thank you, Mark K.

Topic: xwindows

Question:
Why are the windows acting funny? When I try to re-size them or move
them they don't go to where I put them and they snap to different sizes
then I want them. The current version of xwindows is much worse than
previous!

Hello Professor Kramer,

Could you please explain what is different about this version of xwindows?
We have not changed that in about a year or so -- it is still the same
version. I'm not sure I understand your question..

Well, as a user I've noticed a significant change in how windows operate
in the last month or so. I never had any trouble before, but now I
have sporatic trouble with sizing and moving windows. To be specific:
I drag a window to a new location and release the mouse button and
the window rebuilds itself in a different location entirely. Example 2:
I drag a corner to resize a window, release the mouse and get a window
that is a quite different size then the one I have outlined. This doesn't
happen all the time, but frequently enough to be somewhat frustrating.

I have noticed this beginning this September.

The change seems to coincide with the new release of the athena software.
Do you know what version you are running? You can check that by typing:

        add consult
        version

I'd appreciate if you could send me a copy of that output.

Here is the result of version:

Workstation software:
Athena Server (VS3100) Version 7.3M Thu Aug 29 21:10:00 EDT 1991

SRVD software:
Athena RVD (VAX) Version 7.3M Tue Aug 27 20:07:34 EDT 1991
I'd agree that the new release is at fault.

You seem to be running the new release. What window manager are you using?
Is it the default one, MWM? Since this should be considered a bug, you
could report it to the athena developers by sending mail to

        bugs@athena

I'm sorry, but I have to go to class now. I will forward your question so
that other consultants can take a look at it. If you're satisfied with my
answer, though, please type "done" at the olc prompt.

I am using the default window manager, I think. Here is my .startup.X:
xterm -sl 500 -sb -geometry 80x24+510+22 &
xterm -sl 500 -sb -geometry 80x24+510+379 &
xterm -sl 500 -sb -geometry 80x60+0+22 &
