I have verified the bell and keyclick behavior in 7.2 vs 7.3; they are
identical. Specifically:
RT, DECstation, and Vax color X servers, 7.2 and 7.3:
xset b 0 - no bell
xset b off - no bell
xset c 0 - no keyclick
xset c off - no keyclick
xset b [1-100] - varying loudness of bell
xset c [1-100] - varying loundness of keyclick
Vax mono X server, 7.2 and 7.3:
xset b 0 - faint bell, equivalent to xset b 1.
xset b off - faint bell, equivalent to xset b 1.
xset c 0 - no keyclick
xset c off - no keyclick
xset b [1-100] - varying loudness of bell
xset c [1-100] - varying loundness of keyclick
The behavior of xset b 0 is a bug, but it has evidently been present for
several releases, and was not newly introduced by 7.3. Checking the bugs
database, this problem had never previously been reported; apparently it was
not very user-visible.
