With X running but no other activity, I logged in as root and ran
/etc/reboot without first running /etc/shutdown. The screen went
black, the cursor vanished, and the machine died. It would not
respond to control-alt-pause. The LED's contained the number 02.
Had to power cycle to get it going again.
