No. It does not read your subscriptions file, but it does sub you to a
couple of subscriptions if you have none currently:
hal-2000:/mit/fmax/vaxbin

[133]% zctl ret
hal-2000:/mit/fmax/vaxbin
[134]% zctl load /dev/null
hal-2000:/mit/fmax/vaxbin
