I think there is a small bug in the LaTeX thesis format pointed to
under the help facility.
The course VI thesis guidelines call for 1 inch margins on all sides
except the left hand margin which needs to be 1.25 inches. The Latex
thesis format handles this correctly except for the fact that the page
numbers at the bottom of each page must be *within* the 1 inch margin.
This is explicitly stated in the thesis checklist on page 15 of the
Course VI thesis guidelines. I don't know if it applies to theses for
other departments.
Anyway, the LaTeX thesis format available on Athena puts the page
numbers within the 1 inch bottom margin. Fixing this should only
involve tweaking the mitthesis.sty file a little bit.
