VAX 6.0C: login problems on private workstations

Problem: if I mis-type my password the first time and type it correctly
the second time, I am logged in to /mit/treese, but mylocker is not
attached.
Configuration:
6.0C VAXstation 2000
/etc/nocreate exists
"treese" is listed in the password file
This does not occur in public workstation configurations (e.g., without
nocreate and without my originally being listed in the password file).
It does not occur if I mis-type my login name.
