A suggestion: check this again, using "kill -QUIT" or something in
place of gcore. I've seen gcore screw things up before.
I also suggest you test this further. I just tried it on my RT with
no problem:
<1002 5:46pm>[prometheus!raeburn:/mit/raeburn]
% rlogin prometheus -l root
login: root has not given you permission to login without a password.
Password:
Warning: no Kerberos tickets obtained.
Don't login as root, use su
prometheus#
Perhaps you've got the password wrong? That would explain consistent
failures...
