enscript file | lpr -Pprinter results in:
[ xxx pages * 1 copy ] spooled to PostScript

and you get one page of output on your printer, containing the line:

lpr: PostScript: PostScript: unknown printer

enscript (and anything it happens to fork) should write error message
to stderr, not stdout.
