System name: tailgunner
Type and version: KN01 7.2P
Display type: PM-MONO
What were you trying to do?
Login to a decmips running 7.2.
What's wrong:
I set the font path with:
attach OldXfonts
xset fp+ /mit/OldXfonts
However, the font path is set to
/etc/athena/login/fonts/,/mit/OldXfonts/. (So, a lot of the fonts I use
aren't found.)
I can't duplicate this using the commands you describe. I can,
however, get this to happen if I type "xset fp". It sounds to me like
you accidentally typed "xset fp" with no other arguments. That will
reset the font path to the default path, which is
/etc/athena/login/fonts/.
Doing xset fp default, and
then xset -q, shows the *default* font path to be
/etc/athena/login/fonts, which is clearly incorrect.
We know this is a problem, but have not been able to come up with a
solution for 7.2. That *is* what the default font path is set to;
however, you are right that it should be something more. We're
thinking about how to solve this within the constraints of how xlogin
works for 7.3.
The funny part is
that this only happens the *first* time I login to tailgunner; if I
logout, and back in right away, the font path is set correctly.
Like I said, I suspect this is because you didn't type "xset fp" the
second time. In any case, the default font path is going to be set to
/etc/athena/login/fonts/ every time you log in.
