Kamens" <jik@pit-manager.MIT.EDU> To: bugs@ATHENA.MIT.EDU System name: pit-manager Type and version: RTPC-ROMPC 7.2N Display type: apa16 megapel What were you trying to do? Connect to barton when it's down, using the "Library access" menu option from xlogin. What's wrong: After the connect to barton timed out, I got a "/usr/ucb/telnet>" prompt. What should have happened: It should have told me the connection timed out, waited a few seconds for me to read it, and then exited. I should never have gotten that prompt. What do I do with it? Obviously I know the answer to that, but most users don't. Please describe any relevant documentation references: I don't know if there is a way to easily get telnet to exit when the connection fails; I suspect that the fact that it doesn't is a bug. jik
