another interesting thing i keep finding in public clusters is a
deactivated machine with an emacs process running chewing up anywhere
from 70 to 90 percent cpu. in one case, a user reported logging in and
not being able to open any windows. turned out there were no fewer
than five emacs' from previous users' sessions each using an unusually
small amount of memory (for the phenomena): 8%
wasn't this bug supposed to be fixed ?
this is the info i get on the packs used by the vs2000s in the
stud.ctr. with this problem (there were quite a few):
terrapin: 1:20pm ~>attach -m /mnt w20-vssys
attach: filesystem w20-vssys (aristophanes.MIT.EDU:vssys) mounted on /mnt (read-only)
terrapin: 1:20pm ~>cd /mnt
terrapin: 1:20pm /mnt>cat .rvdinfo
