xcluster not exiting properly

i've been finding a lot of machines with hung xcluster processes in
the public clusters.
fun for the whole family, try this at home (or on a workstation near
you):
xcluster &
xkill <mouse to the xcluster window>
window goes away but if you do a ps, the process is still there.
happens on my machine (terrapin, a pvax, running 7.2H)
and a bunch of machines in the public clusters.
