Note that you can specify a "user.group" field in the newsyslog.conf
file, and newsyslog will do a fchown on the new log file after it
creates it. See the manual page --- if the second field contains a dot
then you can enter a group/ownership field: "daemon.operator", for
example.
Out of curiousity, why is syslog looping infinitely? That
sounds like a bug in itself.....
