Does xmh freeze on your forever, or only for a period of time, after
which it unfreezes? How long have you waited for it to unfreeze
before killing it?
I suspect that what is happening is that it's starting its automatic
rescan of your inbox while you're in the middle of composing, and if
it's doing that, then it isn't going to respond to anything you do
until the rescan is finished.
