From: saeed@ATHENA.MIT.EDU
To: bugs@ATHENA.MIT.EDU
Date: Sun, 24 Jun 90 12:15:02 EDT
System name: copilot
Type and version: CVAXSTAR 7.0F
Display type: SM
What were you trying to do?
Use cview (cluster view).
What's wrong:
Returns an error not documented in the man page:
~ [26]% cview
cviewd: error in send to server, rc = -1
~ [27]% cview -d
inside net
service name resolved to DOGHOUSE.MIT.EDU
cview: connecting to [DOGHOUSE.MIT.EDU]
socket to cviewd opened
connection accepted to cviewd
cviewd: error in send to server, rc = -1
reached end of cview
What should have happened:
Return a report of cluster usage.
Please describe any relevant documentation references:
The man page. Some excerpts:
cview examines a cluster monitor database to determine clus-
ter usage. cview invoked without arguments reports on all
clusters, showing how many of each type of workstation are
available. The -d option may be used to turn on debugging.
The bug listed in the man page talks about problems with cluster
initialization -- but nothing about the error returned.
I read about this command as a new feature in 7.0 from page 3 of the
"Project Athena Release Notes, Athena System Release 7.0e" written by
Richard Basch, Jonathen Kamens, Ezra Peisach, and Anne Salemme, dated
May 24th, 1990. I know its an old document and if there's more recent
documentation noting that cview is not functional -- I'm sorry about
sending this (redundant) bug-report. Also in the document it mentions
the following hes command which DID work:
~ [8]% hesinfo cview sloc
DOGHOUSE.MIT.EDU
