Subject: login and .klogin
Date: Fri, 08 Jun 90 19:32:19 EDT
From: John Carr <jfc@ATHENA.MIT.EDU>
VAX 7.0F, minos (RT between 6.4R and 7.0D)
When rlogind or rshd reads .klogin, it does so as root rather than the user
as whom login is being attempted. This means if ~/.klogin is not readable
by root (it could be remote), it is impossible to login with kerberos.
Login knows the uid at this point (it has gotten the /etc/passwd entry in
order to find the home directory).
This is a realistic situation: I may do an nfsc set to give jfc@minos access
to my home directory, then attempt to kerberos rlogin.
