movemail problems

Recently, the `movemail' program (used by emacs rmail) has sometimes
decided to run for long periods of time while retrieving my mail. I
don't think it always does this, though.
One time it used up about 15 _minutes_ of CPU time (on a VS2), when I
hadn't read mail in a day or two; I don't get _that_ much....
