How about this:
Command line option "-depth" (process directory contents first).
[Or choose a better name, if that is not satisfactory.]
This will allow both the old-style and the proposed new-style traversal
to work (thus allowing -rm to work properly).
Changes are in "release.dev" and have been tested, as usual.
