I don't love this bug report layout. Here are TWO problems both related
to afs and pathname displays. I've combined them because they deal with
the same issue in two places: 1) Emacs, 2) my xterm prompt. Both of
these became more annoying with the switch to afs.
What were you trying to do?
1) Use the Emacs file manipulation functions (C-x C-f, Dired-mode Rename, etc)
2) Display my cwd in my prompt.
What's wrong:
1) The afs filename is so long that it doesn't fit in the echo line, for ex:
Rename zwgc-font-demo to: /afs/athena.mit.edu/user/d/dryfoo/Hints/Zephyr/zwgc-font-demo
2)
<33>beethoven:/mit/dryfoo/Hints
% cd ..
<34>beethoven:/afs/athena.mit.edu/user/d/dryfoo
%
What should have happened:
1) Rename zwgc-font-demo to: ~/Hints/Zephyr/zwgc-font-demo
2)
<33>beethoven:/mit/dryfoo/Hints
% cd ..
<34>beethoven:/mit/dryfoo
%
