I apologize for the vague bug report (I looked at changes#1444).  I do
not agree with the patch there.  The first line should be the system
information in all motd's (even on private workstations, since that
convention has already been established).

The bug is that public workstations should have no other information in
/etc/motd.  I just updated hobbes.mit.edu and even after converting it
to public, when I logged in, I got the message that it was non-standard
and running as a Palladium server.  Nothing can be non-standard when
PUBLIC=true, so the contents of /etc/motd should only be the one line
description of the system.

On private workstations, since we have been updating the version line at
the beginning of the motd, discontinuing it as would be done with the
patch <jik> supplied in the changes note will require that the update
strip that information.  This means that the version will never be
printed when you login.  This information was deliberately put in so
that people knew what they were logging into.
